Week 3-4
August 21, 2014
Another new stage! The doggies have moved from the whelping box to the puppy pen. This pen is 'at ground level' whereby the pups - now that they stand more firmly on their legs - have more space to hop and to play. In the beginning they thought the pen was a bit strange but partly thanks to mummy Venice and halfsister Dyonne they quickly got accustomed to the new situation. Furthermore the little ones had their first meal of porridge yesterday. Well, they didn't have to get accustomed to that at all! I barely placed the platter or in a jiffy they attacked it and the porridge was complety gone in no time. This is pure joy, what a fantastic flock it is!
Day 27: paradise!
Sleeping remains a favourite pastime of the puppies (here female 'brown')
The new accommodation really seems to suit well ;-)
Female 'orange' discovered the knotted rope

Look at the tail of female 'pink', also with the rope!

The new tunnel is cool too!!!! (and totally not grisly, they crawled through it immediately)
Sweet little man 'black'
Day 26: the pups changed 'house' and mama Venice supports them with the initiation
Dyonne also helps her halfbrothers and -sisters to get accustomed to the new pen!

Female 'orange' is busy with Woezel (Woezel is a doggy character from a Dutch children's book series)

The pups also like toys with a little bell in it (on this picture female 'pink')
The pups are having porridge for the first time and they attack it right away!
Mama is very willingly to lick the platter (and meanwhile the pups have a few gulps from her)
Visit and deworming
August 19, 2014
The past weekend has been busy but very pleasant! The pups had a lot of attention with a.o. on Sunday the first Puppy-meeting. How happy and enthusiastic all the future owners were to see 'their' pups in real life! Many pictures and movies were made to watch again at home :-).
The puppies are now 3 weeks old and so the deworming-procedure has started. I chose a different, less onerous method than I usually do. This litter will get a propolis solution at 3, 5 and 7 weeks of age; propolis is a natural, resinous mixture coming from bees and it supports/strengthens the gut flora whereby the worms do not have a nice habitat in the guts. As soon as the pups get solid food they will also have some crushed pumpkin granules added; pumpkin seeds contain an amino acid named 'cucurbitin' which paralyzes and eliminates the worms from the digestive tract. When the pups are 7 weeks old a fecal testing will be done to determine if maybe a chemical deworming is still needed, because I do find it important that the pups are indeed free of worms! For me it feels very right to deworm this way, because for years I've had my doubts whether all those (maybe unnecessary) remedies are any good for those little bodies... Ofcourse mummy and the other dogs will also get this same worm treatment, because it applies to them too that I'd rather not give them any chemical stuff unless really necessary.
So much for the clarification on the deworming, below again a lot of pictures to enjoy!
Day 25: "hello Dyonne!"
Female 'yellow' and male 'red' playing
Sister 'mint' is a very nice pillow!
A bunch of pups
Day 24: female 'pink' on board the train :-)
Female 'purple' sleeps on the duckboard
Day 23: pleasantly lazy (female 'brown')

Female 'yellow' hanging over the long dog toy
So wise; lying like a grown up dog would do!
You just wanna smother her! Female 'pink'...
Day 22: Dyonne is very crazy about the pups and she plays so nicely but also very carefully with them

Wonderful!
Female 'orange'
A close up from a happy trio on the milk bar (male 'black', female 'yellow' and female 'brown')
Male 'blue' is playing with the plush train

And male 'green' with the ball

Nicole, a good friend and breeder of Rhodesian Ridgebacks, also seems to be in love!
Day 21: the pups are getting bigger and bigger, feeding now requires quite a lot of Venice's body...
So neat how the puppies at such a young age already relieve themselves outside their sleeping area!
