A new beginning...
June 1, 2012
It's already been almost 2 weeks ago that 8 of the 9 pups left for their new homes... Ofcourse their departure hit me hard, but the happy faces of the brandnew owners eased it a lot. In the meantime everybody sent me messages and pictures, and all pups are doing fantastic! They adapt very well, they're sweet and compliant, sometimes naughty but that's what a pup should be like ;-). With female 'mint' who will be staying here a while longer things are going great too; she's having the time of her life and is spoilt rotten by her mummy and her big sister Venice. So all humans and dogs are happy which ofcourse is what we were all hoping for!

movie: the puppies' second woods walk!

And with this update Im closing this diary, but not without thanking everybody for their help and compassion during the wonderful weeks I had with the pups. Thanks ofcourse also to all the puppy buyers for having faith in me and my breeding! And last but not least I want to express - from the bottom of my heart - my admiration for that sweet, special Yacime... How she carried out her task as a mother in an inimitable way, and how she yet again gave her offspring a tremendously good start - I don't think a dog baby could ask for more :-). And then now really, finally: look here for the last pictures of the pups when they were all still here (including shots of their second time in the woods) and here for the departure pictures...
Almost goodbye :-(
May 17, 2012 (day 51)
My honeybees... Only 1 full day left, and then the first 5 pups are leaving. And on Sunday 3 more will be going. One girl (female 'mint') is staying here a little while longer and we don't mind that at all :-).
Today not much news but many pictures, and they say it all! For we've took the little rascals to the woods yesterday so plenty of nice photos! (click here to see them).
The final week...
May 14, 2012 (day 48)
movie: 9 crazy pups in the garden (with Venice)

How time flies right now, there are just not enough hours in a day. But I'm still enjoying these lovely pups a lot and I will till the last moment! It really is a nice litter, although it's a lot of work so ofcourse many things have happened since the last message in this diary.
The pups were dewormed for the third time and last Thurday the vet came to my home to vaccinate the pups: they were all checked and declared healthy, besides none of the pups squeaked from the needle!!
Furthermore we had the Puppytest last Saturday,
which just like the previous litter from Yacime, was done by Nel Blaakman and Marjet Bosman (official testers from the Flatcoat Retriever Club - thanks again ladies!!): a very pleasant but also instructive test, which they all withstood fantastically. They all almost wagged their tails off by joy, none of the pups were frightend or detached and they were all interested in the game (various birds and a rabbit skin). Clever puppies, I'm so proud of them!
And then the final news for today: the pups were microchipped this afternoon, and that too went without any sign of pain or discomfort! What a relief, it really doesn't look nice to watch such a big needle going into those tiny little bodies... Oh, and ofcourse they are now all connected to their official pedigree names (theme: cocktails), so I can reveal those too - along with the petnames they were given by their future owners:
Male 'blue'                Rocksett Sky Blue Fallout (Jack)
Male 'black' Rocksett Saint Thomas Smile (Marley)
Male 'green' Rocksett Sparkling Hunt Punch (Jivan)
Male 'grey' Rocksett Strong Badia Melonade (Storm)
Male 'purple' Rocksett Scotch Bird Flyer (Bink)
Male 'white' Rocksett Sharp Hill Sunrise (Troy)
Female 'pink' Rocksett Smooth Pink Lemonade (Yaci)
Female 'mint' Rocksett Sunny Hypnotiq Breeze (Skylar)
Female 'red' Rocksett Spring Feeling Cocktail (Frits)
Puppy paradise!
May 6, 2012 (day 40)
Yesterday again was an exciting day for the puppies, because their pen is changed into a true playground! There now is a little tent to camp in, there are bottles and balls in the air to bump against... They are new toys, there are bigger chewing bones, and a few new places to sleep. Plus, there is a lot more space to run and romp. So in short: a true puppy paradise! Add to this that there are also always 8 others (or 9 if you count their big sister Venice, haha) and then everybody will understand that the pups aren't bored easily ;-).
Week 5
May 4, 2012 (day 38)
Another wonderful week! The pups are just so sweet, funny and full of energy. And we've been lucky, because up till now the pups were able to go outside to run and play at least once a day. This ofcourse again delivers nice pictures: click here to look at them and enjoy...
Queen's Day
April 30, 2012 (day 34)
the puppies playing in the garden...
Every year on April 30, people in Holland celebrate Queen's Day. But I let the festivities pass by this time... The focus now is only on Yacime's gorgeous puppies and I'm ever so proud of how they are thriving! They eat well, play a lot, are potty trained, look smashing and are such a source of joy! They had their first outing in the garden on Friday, and they were again so stable in character: no signs of stress or fear whatsoever! On Sunday we had another Puppy-meeting and all the future owners attended; the house and garden were full, but everybody had a great time. Thank you all for coming and it's so nice to see what a big smile the puppies put on all of your faces!
New residence
April 26, 2012 (day 30)
It's ravingly busy here, but we're not complaining! The pups are really to die for ;-), so enjoying is the keyword. They are now 4 weeks old and on Tuesday they moved to yet again a bigger residence. Big Fun! The pictures are a magnificent proof...
Meanwhile the pups had their second deworming and this time too it went just fine. Furthermore the potty training has started, but these little know-it-all's didn't need much instruction - within one day they understood that from now on they have to relieve themselves on the litter pan!!

Eating
April 23, 2012 (day 27)
The life of a young pup exists - besides sleeping and some playing - mainly of eating. And because all Yacime's kids had their teeth coming through, it was the right time to expand their menu: last Saturday they had raw meat for the first time, and yesterday evening it was the première of the soaked dry food (with porridge). Again no problem for the stomachs whatsoever, so both treats are now daily eaten with much delight! Click here to look at the pictures of the food feast...
Furthermore the owner of Venice's litter sister Yazoo (Rocksett Cheeks Are Rosy) recorded some very nice movies while she was 'puppysitting' here last Thursday. The movies are just lovely Lisette, thanks a lot!
So much fun!
April 20, 2012 (day 24)
The pups are now 3,5 weeks old and in the Puppy Residence the fun is increasing by the minute. The youngsters are really so entertaining to watch! How they walk, the way they play with each other, the interest they show in the toys… they bark, they leap, they roll on their backs… and in the passing they grumble or bite at a brother or sister ;-). This is no sign of aggression or dominance, but purely meant to discover how they should behave later, in The Big Dogworld.
Besides all that there is something else, truly amazing, happening here: Venice - Yacime’s 2,5 year old daughter - has turned out as her mother’s help! As soon as Yacime is ready with feeding and cleaning, Venice hurries to the pen, hangs her head in it and starts washing all the pups! The little ones always come to her right away, they lick her and playfully bite her ears. So touching! And when the mature dogs return from a walk, the girls walk straight up to the pen together to check on the litter… Ofcourse Yacime is the real mama and she surely isn’t giving up on her duties, but I find it very special that she allows Venice to do all this with the pups! No envy, no possessiveness, no dispute – nothing of the sort! If this isn’t proof of a super close bond between mother and daughter…?!
Busy times...
April 16, 2012 (day 20)

What madness it has been in the ‘Rocksett’ home the past few days ;-). Extremely busy, but thankfully only with pleasant things. Last Sunday we had the first Puppy-meeting and all future owners have paid a visit. I'm very pleased with the nine wonderful, loving families for Yacime's kids!
Since Friday the pups are staying in a more spacious environment, as the whelping box is expanded with a weaning pen. The little villains clearly were in need of more space to walk and horse around, and now they can! Also it's much more comfortable for Yacime during the feeding and cleaning of her offspring, it's unbelieveable how fast those pups have grown in just a few days time!
With this they are also demanding more of their mum, so they had their first meal of porridge – ofcourse it was a big mess but sooooo funny to watch. And they liked it big time, the bowls were entirely emptied so there wasn't much left for their eager mummy who also finds the porridge very tasty!

Dewormed
April 12, 2012 (day 16)
Last Tuesday the pups were 2 weeks old so both Yacime as well as her kids were dewormed; this was the very first time for the pups but it all went without any problems. They kept the paste well down and thankfully not one of them was bothered by diarrhea or  cramps. Such strong doggies! Meanwhile they're getting strong on other levels too: most of them are able to walk quite a few steps! And sometimes they bark a little... they start to challenge each other and make attempts to play, that just looks so wacky. What an incredible fun it is to experience all these developments day-in-day-out. Wonderful!
Eastern
April 9, 2012 (day 13)
Certainly no eggs for the puppies ;-), but a meeting with my 16-year-old twin nephews. For Yacime ofcourse very familiar (so no turbulence factor), for the pups another new experience! It’s nice – although quite a responsibility – to broaden the horizon of the pups just a little more each time;

Stefan & Lex

something they will only profit from for the rest of their lives!
Yesterday
we also took pictures of the puppies' heads: some were a bit sleepy and not in the mood, but nonetheless they all look very sweet! Click here to view the little cuties!!
Eyes open...
April 7, 2012 (day 11)

The little ones are thriving superbly and the steps they’re taking are getting bigger by the day! All now have their eyes open (male ‘white’ was the very first one last Thursday!) and they are trying to walk through the whelping box; the attempts they’re making are touching, as they keep tumbling and still have to find their balance and strength. The sounds the pups are producing keep increasing too, sometimes you can already hear some sort of warning signal in case one of the siblings is acting annoying. Very impressive ;-).
Mummy Yacime is also doing well and looks great! She is no longer constantly in the box, which allows her to get more (mental) rest. Once a day she joins in for a short walk in the woods: afterall she’s an active, lively dog and really needs this exercise as a form of relaxation and distraction. And it’s working well, for Yacime as well as for her litter, so everybody’s happy!

Pictures
April 4, 2012 (day 8)
Not much to mention today, everything is still just going great with mother and kids! So this time 'only' some pictures to enjoy :-). Click here to see them on the Puppy page of week 2.
Nails and pedigree names
April 2, 2012 (day 6)
male 'green' so adorably
between mummy's front legs...

Tomorrow the pups are 1 week old, and what a terrific start it has been for the little ones! Their amazing mother does everything she can to feed and care for her offspring, and she’s doing a splendid job!! It’s not an easy task to rear 9 puppies, so I admire her greatly…
This weekend the nails of the pups have been clipped for the first time, and in fact they all accepted it quite easily. It is important to do this on a regular basis because nails that are too long can
cause nasty skin abrasions on Yacime’s belly.
Furthermore I finally cut the knot with regards to the pedigree names. It’s only during the chipping of the pups that the names are linked to the individual
doggies, so the only thing I can reveal at the moment is that I chose cocktail names for this litter: I think it's a nice and suiting theme, since mummy Yacime has ‘juice’ in her pedigree name and daddy Davis officially is called ‘Sandeman’ (a brand name of sherry and port)!

Sleeping, eating, growing...
March 31, 2012 (day 4)
The litter is still doing superbly! Yacime wasn't feeling all well the day before yesterday (slightly vomitting and some diarrhoea) but fortunately she has completely recovered. The pups are growing well and are all weighing close to 600 grams. There is one smaller boy - at birth he only weighed 270 grams - but he too is a brave little chap and when it comes to fight or character, he greatly holds his own with his litter mates!
As from today Yacime starts to leave the whelping box more often, but at this stage she still returns very quickly again; she loves her babies too much and obviously doesn't want to miss one single minute :-).
Funny Yacime!
March 29, 2012 (day 2)
Yacime carefully picks up a pup...
The pups are now two days old and having this litter is such a delight! And sometimes also very hilarious… Yacime discovered she can keep a puppy in her mouth :-). Every morning the pups go in a basket when the whelping box is being cleaned. Yesterday the red ribboned female didn’t approve much of this and made herself clearly heard. Suddenly I found Yacime standing in front of the box beside me, very gently holding this puppy in her mouth as if to say: "she wants to be in the box and I agree!!". Later that day Yacime was laying in the whelping box with the first born male in her mouth who was screaming for a nipple but couldn't find it. This struck me as enormously cute and sweet of Yacime. This is her second litter but never before has she carried a puppy...
Nine little miracles...
March 27, 2012 (day of birth)
They are born! Yacime's beautiful, healthy puppies... 6 males and 3 females (click here for the first pictures). Thankfully the delivery was without any complications; all went smoothly and relatively easy. The first puppy - a male - was born at 02:35 o'clock and at 08:19 o'clock she gave birth to number nine, a female. Yacime is again an outstanding, very caring mother and she is so happy with her new offspring (and so are we ofcourse)!!
