Changes...
March 25, 2012 (62th day)
Step by step the changes start revealing... Yacime has lost most of her appetite: this morning and in the afternoon she only wanted to have a bit of raw meat. Earlier this evening I presented her white fish with yoghurt and after some hesitation she ate it, although it wasn't very convincing. Furthermore the temperature dropped yesterday and meanwhile went up again. She is not yet digging or showing any other restless signs, but it's obvious the delivery is seriously approaching. It would be a relief for Yacime I think, it's getting hard for her now with all that extra weight and the active moving puppies in her belly.

Yacime's huge belly today...

Temperature
March 23, 2012 (60th day)
A beautiful, sun drenched day on which Yacime continues to do just fine! Logically the warmth bothers her somewhat, but on the other hand she loves to lay in the sun and doze away. Her eating continues to go well too, although one can hardy imagine there’s at all room left in her big belly! She weighs over 42.2 kgs now, with a belly measurement of 83 cm (32.67 inches ). Her temperature – that I'm taking twice a day since Monday – has not shown any changes so far which means the delivery is probably not about to happen yet.
In the meantime I’m reducing my huge list of possible pedigree names for the pups to a more reasonable number from which I have to make my final - but difficult - draw within 2 weeks…
Ball
March 21, 2012 (58th day)
What a wonderful, happy doggy she is... Despite her enormous weight (yesterday she weighted no less than 41.2 kgs) Yacime still manages to play with her ball while laying on her back without any problems!! As the days pass I'm more and more surprised how prosperous and relaxed she's handling all this again. Just marvelous! Officially she still has 5 days to go... exciting :-).
The final week...
March 18, 2012 (55th day)

Yesterday the whelping box was placed for Yacime to get used to it at her own pace, and she already took a few nice naps in it. Venice, Roman and Milan are totally not interested in this new bed, it’s almost like they understand that it was put there especially for Yacime…
In this final week of her pregnancy things are starting to get harder for Yacime; she sleeps a lot and the daily walks have to be shortened, but at the same time she is happy as ever and is still eating like a horse ;-). From tomorrow on she'll be getting her food divided over 4 meals so she has more room for it in her already so full belly. At this stage it’s also very easy to see and feel the pups moving inside Yacime, what a tremendous experience that is!

Super girl!
March 13, 2012 (50th day)
This picture was taken last Saturday and in just a few days Yacime has really grown considerably. Her weight today: 38.4 kgs. It is clear now that her belly starts to affect her daily walks and in the woods she doesn't run as much anymore, but nonetheless she's tremendously enjoying herself; this afternoon for example she pleasantly rolled herself through the chips of the freshly cut trees :-). I am very proud, but most of all grateful for the way Yacime is coping with this second pregnancy so far!
Meeting
March 8, 2012 (45th day)
Time flies, Yacime is already at 6,5 weeks. Everything is still going as we were hoping for, so there's no complaining! Last Tuesday she was weighed and measured again; her weight is 36.3 kgs, her belly up till now has grown 8 cm (3.14 inches) and is 76 cm (29.9 inches). So that's quite a lot already...
Furthermore the meeting with all the people that are interested in a puppy from this litter took place and it was very nice. Together with Yacime, Venice, Roman, Milan and their sister Yazoo we took a great walk through the wonderful area of 'Soesterduinen', not far from my home. And the weather was good enough to sit down at the terrace afterwards so it was a pleasant afternoon that especially Yacime enjoyed to the fullest; mind you, the more cuddles she gets, the better she thinks it is ;-).
The fifth week...
February 28, 2012 (36th day)
Things are going well with Yacime! She absolutely looks smashing with her beautiful, soft expression. And she's still functioning well, although I do feel her belly is already quite big and she's only 5 weeks on the way... This afternoon we stopped by the vet to have her weighed but that wasn't a big change, she only gained one kilo (she is now 34.5 kgs). Her apetite however is clearly increasing so we started to slowly raise the amount of food. The rest will stay just the way it has always been because for now everything is going just super!
Good news!
February 21, 2012 (29th day)
Today an ultrasound confirmed what I already guessed: Yacime is in whelp! It honestly didn't come as a surprise, because very soon after the matings Yacime was so different... Again those dreamy eyes (which she also had during the pregnancy of her first litter) and also she was a lot calmer than she normally is. And, since a few days her belly started to slightly enlarge. Nevertheless it is fantastic to now know for sure that she's going to become a mummy again. Such a pleasant development and how fascinating Mother Nature can be...

Season and mating
January 23 and 25, 2012
It's funny how females seem to delay their heat especially when you are planning to mate them :-). The same thing happen with Yacime this time: I expected her to come into season in December, but it happened on January 12... And from that moment on it all started with first the deworming and then on the 10th day the blood test to measure the amount of progesterone. And the first test already showed it could be the right time to try a mating! So the same evening me and a good friend drove to the east of the country to see if Yacime still liked Davis as she did on their first meeting a couple of months ago. And yes, it turned out positively! In the beginning Yacime was distracted because she prefered to sniff around a bit, but it wasn't long before she offered herself to Davis and they mated easily (connected for 19 minutes). And also the second mating - two days later - went just well and I again enjoyed the soft, modest character of Davis; one of the reasons I chose him as the partner for Yacime's second litter...
I'd like to thank Casper and Diane again for their hospitality and the pleasant time we had during both matings! Now all we can do is wait and see if the encounter between the two doggies was successful...
